I have a bt homehub 4. Sometimes when watching netflix on tv the picture will glitch and the sound goes out of sync. Other times, on bbc iplayer, the picture hangs momentarily, only for a fraction of a second, but it's noticeable.
I am not sure if these issues are due to my router, or the tv itself.
I'm thinking of replacing the router, but of course this could be money wasted if it's not a router issue.
I just tested my broadband speed which is around 15mb/s

Have you updated the TV's firmware? How is your TV connected to your router - wired or wireless?
If wireless then that's far more likely to be a bottleneck to the through-put speed than your router's connection to the interweb.
A cheap and effective test is to buy a long enough Ethernet cable to hook up the router to the TV with a direct wired connection. This presumes that your TV has an Ethernet socket (because you forgot to tell us the make and model). It's only a temporary test so any complaints from significant others can be allayed that this won't be a permanent fixture. Once hooked up, make sure that the TV is using wired rather than wireless for its connection. If you're still getting problems even after a firmware update and a wired connection then it's time to look at a new router.

Thanks for your reply and yes I omitted some details.
I use a wireless connection as the router/modem is connected to the main BT socket in the hallway and the TV is in the room next door. The TV is a panasonic L39E6B and it does have an ethernet socket. I will try your suggestion and see how it goes, although if I am going to connect with a cable it will have to be a long one. By the way since posting I noticed that as an existing BT customer I can get the latest homehub 6 for £50 which might be worth my while anyway. But I will try out your idea, but have to say I am unsure how to update the TVs firmware. Presumably there will be an option somewhere in the setup menu.

Well you can get a 20m Cat5e Ethernet patch cable delivered for under £6. (Other lengths are available, naturally.) At that these sort of prices it's no-brainer as a test.
Software/firmware update: See your manual (or download from the Panasonic web site if you can't be arsed finding it) or as you suggest go have a root around in the menus.
If you have money to burn: Get the router anyway, but if your issue is signal interference, or lack of penetration in a WiFi deadspot, or simply the number of other devices accessing WiFi at the same time then you might still have an issue.
In short, you have to start methodically and exclude as many factors as possible to work out what the cause might be. Throwing money at an underfined problem won't always work. Sometimes you might get lucky, but that's all it is: Blind luck. We use our heads a bit more here and tend to work the problem through with logic.

I just tested my broadband speed which is around 15mb/s

I picked up a BT Hub 6 and there was a big improvement on the BT Hub 3 I was using, I have extremely thick walls and always had to leave a bedroom door open as well as the lounge door. The 6 has no drop out now even with doors closed. You can pick up a brand new BT Hub 6 for as little as £20 on gumtree/ebay the same with BT youview 2100 500gb model. Lots of people upgrade their broadband and get new routers and sell them immediately. I had just picked up an almost brand new BT youview 500gb box for £35 and the BT Hub for £25, a week later someone advertised the youview box. BT Hub 6 and BT wi-fi extenders all brand new and all for £70.
Does your room adjoin your lounge? You could drill through the wall and feed the cable through and connect directly to your TV which will improve the performance.Cat cable is reasonably small and you can normally make a neat job.

Chris, David, thanks for your ideas. In the meantime I have tried something that tells me the fault is in the TV. By the way Chris it has the latest firmware.
I have attached a chromecast to the TV and used a PC to connect Netflix, then cast to the TV. It runs fine.
Looks like this is how I will have to watch Netflix in future.
I will probably get the homehub upgrade anyway, even though it seems the homehub 4 isn't the issue.
