Error Code E02, or E2
Error code E02 or E2 on the Bosch front-loading washing machines usually indicates an issue related to the machine’s water supply.
The machine is sensing that it is currently unable to fill itself with water to begin the washing cycle, or if the machine is able to fill with water, the machine has judged that the process is taking much longer than its internal allotted time, and thus producing the error.
This can have multiple causes but likely means that the water pressure into the washing machine is either very low, or no water is making its way into the washing machine.
To find the source of the error, you’ll first want to check your home’s main water pressure; likely by checking the closest faucet near your laundry room to ensure the fault is not the result of a more general problem in your home.
If you find that the water pressure in your home is as you’d expect, you must now turn your attention to the machine itself.
To resolve the E02 error, you must, first, check that the water supply into the machine is turned on.
If you find this to be the case, you then want to check the water hose itself, to ensure that the hose has not become kinked, twisted, or damaged in some way during installation to stop water from making its way into the washing machine. If this is the case (aside from a possible pool of water on the floor) you’ll want to replace the water inlet cord.
If you find that the cord is not twisted or disconnected in any way, and this still does not resolve the issue, you will next want to have a look at the water inlet strainer, as it may have become clogged through use of the machine.
To do this, you will need to remove the water hose from the machine and remove the small plastic strainer at its source. You may need to use a pair of needle-nosed pliers to get hold of and remove the plastic strainer. When doing this, do be careful, as any water that is currently in the water hose will now leak out.

Error Code E13
Related to the E02 error, is the E13 error, which also occurs on Bosch machines.
In this case, E13 indicates the washer has a drainage problem. Like the repair above, you will need to turn off the power to the washing machine through the breaker or unplug the machine from the wall before commencing with this repair.

Hopefully, your machine is displaying this error while it is in an empty state if not, well, you and/or your floor may get a bit wet, so make sure to have plenty of towels, or ideally a wet and dry vacuum cleaner on hand to clean up the impending mess. Once you have all of the necessary tools at hand, follow the instructions below to hopefully resolve the drainage problem.
- Firstly you will need to find the circular door at the lower right-hand corner at the front of the machine. You will see that the door has a small round hole in the door; you will need a small screwdriver or small drill bit that fits in the hole.
- Next, you will want to stick the drill bit or small screwdriver into the hole. This will compress a tab, and rotating the hole clockwise should allow the door to come free. However, be very careful, as the edges of the door are very sharp.
- Once the door is removed, you will see a small plastic cap, with wings you can easily unscrew by hand. You will also see a green ring attached to a string This string will unlatch the washing machine’s door. Of course, if the machine is currently full of water, you’ll want to remove that in as contained a way as you can first, before unlatching the door.
- Slowly begin unscrewing the cap. If you have a wet and dry vacuum cleaner available, place it on the small lip at the bottom of the cap, to hopefully catch most of the escaping water. If not, well, you, and your floor are going to likely get wet.
- Once the cap is fully removed (and the machine subsequently drained) you can now pull out the trap and have a good look at the inside of the pump to see the items of debris that caused the error in the first place.
- Once you have removed the obstructing debris, you can then replace the cap along with the trap and lint filter along with plugging the washer back into its power or switching the power breaker back on, to allow you to use the washer again.
- Now, the drain should once again function normally, but you should now run a load of laundry, and specifically watch for any leaks, which may occur. During this wash, leave the pump access door off the machine, so you can ensure the cap has been screwed back into the machine tightly, and no leaks are present in the machine.
This should now allow the machine to function normally.
However, if there was no obstruction when inspecting the drainpipe, it may be that the drain pipe itself has become faulty. If no other clear obstruction is present, this is likely the cause of the pooling water, and you should now replace the drain pipe to resolve the error entirely.
Error Code E17
Error code E17 often occurs in concert with the error code E13 we just discussed.
While E13 indicates that the machine is taking too long for the pump to empty the machine – and likely as a result needs the pump to be cleaned (or at least have an obstruction removed) E17 simultaneously indicates that water is leaking and has gotten into the bottom of the machine.
E17 Fix: Pump Filter & Coin Trap Cleaning

Like with the E13 code, the E17 code will cause the machine itself to lock up, to prevent the water from escaping out the machine’s door, but this, of course, keeps your clothes wet and in the water trapped in the machine, likely ruining them, after enough time has passed.
One quick way to resolve the E17 code is to lean the machine toward its back, so the water drains away from the sensor, which will allow the machine to open.
However, as we’ve already seen with the E13 error, there is another solution. For the E17 error code, you need only follow many of the same instructions as the E13 error above. Again, as before, do not attempt any repairs without first unplugging, or removing power, from the machine.
To resolve the E17 error, you will need to open the machine, as shown above, so you are once again looking at the manual door opening line and the pump line. You will need to clear out any water remaining there. In this same area, there is a small micro switch at the bottom of the machine, near the front.

This is the switch that triggers the E17 error. To remove the error, you must effectively remove the sensor.
The sensor has a small amount of Styrofoam that floats when water is present, triggering the error. So, you simply need to remove the sensor unit, wipe up any water present, and place the caps and covers back in place. The E17 error should now be removed, and given you’ve already followed the instructions for E13 above, your machine should now be good to go!
